London ePrix to remain at Battersea Park
The season two finale of the Formula E championship looks set to take place at Battersea Park on July 2/3, after an agreement was reached between Formula E Holdings and Wandsworth Council.
Championship promoter Formula E Holdings Ltd and Wandsworth Council have reportedly come to an agreement to accommodate the change in date from the original 25/26 June slot.
The new date for the second London ePrix is expected to be ratified by the World Motor Sport Council later today.
The move has been made to avoid a clash with the British Grand Prix, which will be held on Sunday 26th June.
Formula E had initially allocated the final weekend of June date for its finale, but when the British Grand Prix was announced last month on the same weekend, FEH was forced to negotiate.
Motorsport.com understands that the annual JP Morgan Chase Corporate Challenge running event, which was a potential clash with Formula E for use of the park, has accommodated the Formula E round after talks earlier this month.
However, final confirmation of the race can only come after November 2, when the opt-out clause agreement between FEH and Wandsworth lapses. A review into the first London Eprix has taken place but a subsequent analysis meeting has been postponed until next month.
“In light of the considerable response to the consultation exercise , the Council needs more time to properly analyse the results in order to inform a fair and balanced decision on the matter,” assistant director of Leisure and Culture at Wandsworth Council Paul McCue told Motorsport.com this week.
“That being so, the review report was not considered at the September 22 meeting of the Community Services Overview and Scrutiny Committee (our original plan) and we will need to set an alternative date.”
